WP v EP Kings: A family affair

EP Kings scrumhalf Kevin Luiters has talked about coming up against his uncle’s team in the Currie Cup, Western Province head coach Allister Coetzee.

Many don’t know that the two are related because of their different surnames. But Luiters and Coetzee are close family and have a good relationship, especially when it comes to rugby.

“I’m the only boy in the family as all my cousins are girls, so you can say I have solely inherited the family’s rugby legacy,” Luiters told the MyPlayers website.

“My uncle Allister doesn’t have any sons, so we are quite close, especially when it comes to speaking about rugby.

“All the locals in the Eastern Cape always tell me stories about my grandfather, who was a great rugby player during his time, and my uncle, who was an accomplished scrumhalf and flyhalf. They say he controlled the game really well when he was on the field and could kick conversions with both feet!”

Luiters added that he has always turned to Coetzee when seeking rugby advice.
