The crucial Varsity Football Cup Round six

Varsity Football 2014. UJ v UCT , Monday 18 AUGUST 2014. UJ Soweto Sport Complex, Soweto

The penultimate round of the league phase of Varsity Football could see play-off dreams made or broken in another explosive line-up of matches.

The action kicks off with the table-topping clash between the only two unbeaten sides left in the tournament – NWU and UJ – in front of what is sure to be another sold-out crowd in Mafikeng.

From there the focus shifts to the Cape as UWC and UCT host the two non-televised games.

UWC will have a job on their hands against defending champions UP-Tuks, with anything less than a first victory at home this year likely to signal the end of their semifinal aspirations.

Bottom-dwellers UCT might be out of the running having secured just one log point from their five matches, but they will feel they have a point to prove in front of their home crowd at the Green Mile against a Kovsies outfit desperate for a win to put themselves in the frame for the play-offs.

The final game of the round will see Limpopo continue their travels with a tricky trip to Port Elizabeth where they will face a resurgent Madibaz side keen to cement their spot in the top four.
