Despite a home ground advantage, the Ikeys could not grind out a win in their game against Kovsies.

According to Varsity Sports SA, UCT were more resilient and gave a good account of themselves as they threw everything they had at their visitors but could not win against an in-form Kovsies goalkeeper.

UCT enjoyed early possession and even had an early chance when Louis-Romain Moussi Sopp had a one on one opportunity against Kovsies goalkeeper Serasengoe Moodie, but the goalkeeper was up to the challenge and kept the striker at out of the goalposts.

Kovsies had their own chance to open the scoring from a free kick on the edge of the home side’s box but it posed no threat to UCT, who cleared the ball.

The visitors struggled to get started in the first half as they not only had to deal with a determined UCT side but also a strong Cape Town wind. However, they did well in keeping the home side from scoring.

UCT dominated most of the play in the first half and also have Bevan Adonis to thank for keeping Kovsies from scoring, as the UCT goalkeeper pulled off two great saves in quick succession.

The teams went into the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0.

Despite their best efforts in the closing moments of the match, UCT were unable to break Moodie and lost 2-0.
