Best Things to Do in Cape Town: The Labia Theatre

Things To Do in Cape Town-LT

The Labia Theatre is the oldest independent art reparatory cinema in South Africa! If that is not enough to spark your interest then you don’t know what you’re missing. If the hollowed out- action packed, break-the-bank styles of the cinemas of today are not really your style, then this would be the place to go. The Labia Theatre, originally an Italian Embassy ballroom, was opened by Princess Labia in May 1949 as a theatre for the staging of live performances. For the past 37 years, it has been operating as a cinema on the alternative circuit appealing mainly to the more perceptive viewer who enjoys more quality productions and the charm of an old-world ambience. Since the cinema is a privately owned one, it is permitted to serve anything from coffee to vodka slush puppies!

The smell of fresh popcorn and coffee are more than enough to lure you in to the artsy- movies being shown.

Unfortunately, the cinema is being  pushed to go digital, or close down… check out their pledge for donations here:
