Battle of the sexes

Until the 1980s few women claimed the rock and roll stage and only a handful of rock divas such as Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and Tina Turner took to the stage.

Watch these sixties rock chicks take on the likes a Mick Jagger, James Brown, Jim Morrison and more to fight to win over audiences and critics.

In the seventies Stevie Nicks gave Fleetwood Mac their signature sound while you saw the emergence of new rock chicks on the block such as Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde.  For the male rockers to stand their ground we saw the creation of the piano playing Elton John and Billy Joel and classic rockers Steve Tyler, Dave Lee Roth and the queen of them all Freddie Mercury.

The eighties was a time for change when the androgynous Annie Lennox appeared on MTV wearing a suit and tie, sporting a bright coloured short hair style resembling a man- singing Sweet Dreams. More confusing we encountered a man dressed as a woman calling him-self Boy George fronting a camp and feminine looking band dressed in bright colours calling themselves – Culture Club.

So male and female rock stars stand your ground and let’s start the battle of the sexes. Hold onto to your seats as this battle is going to rock you like never before.
