A bitter defeat for Ikeys

According to Varsity Sports SA, UCT’s goalkeeper Bevan Adonis admits that the Ikeys’ latest defeat was a bitter pill to swallow.

Adonis said their 2-0 defeat to Kovsies on the Green Mile was a difficult loss.

Having lost two successive away games at 6-0, the Ikeys seemed ready to make amends in the midst of their home crowd and lift themselves off the bottom of the log, but it did not work out that way as the visiting Kovsies took all three points in the end.

The loss was another bitter disappointment for the Cape Town side, as they had hoped that the game would give them three more points on the log board. The team fought hard to get the game back after an own goal early in the second half, but their efforts were in unsuccessful.

Adonis, who made some vital saves throughout the match, stated that their finishing had let them down.

“We were very disappointed; we worked hard in the lead-up to the tournament and last night we played well, but just couldn’t convert our chances,” he said.

Next week, UCT will have their last chance to get their only win under their belt when they come up against UWC. UWC have only won two of their games, so the Cape derby may be evenly matched.
